And that's reduced my ability to enjoy this book a lot This was a nice novel with a very interesting premise and I was excited to read it based on the blurb I love the whole mistaken identity trope especially when a character is deliberately pretending to be someone else It's not a trope that's done too often because it's very difficult for an author to pull it off competently since there are always gaping plot holes to fill Those gaping plot holes are what created a few problems for me But before I get to the plot holes let me summarize the storyThe heroine Mina is a middle eastern princess who decides to help out her best friend Carissa by pretending to be Carissa Carissa's father has embezzled millions of dollars from the H Alexei and the H has invited Carissa to visit his island Alexei assumes that Carissa is a vapid socialite gold digger so he thinks that if he makes her believe that he wants to marry her then she'll jump at the opportunity to come visit him His real plan is not to marry Carissa but to hold her as a hostage in order to force her criminal father to come out of hiding That part didn't surprise me because this is HPlandia and H's often act in the most far fetched manner when they're betrayed andor are seeking vengeance What did surprise me was the fact that the H planned all of this without actually getting some detailed investigative research done on Carissa That was the first huge plot hole Alexei was an IT billionaire so I uestioned his lack of attention to certain important things such as1 He didn't even check out Carissa's social media to see what she looked like in her most recent photos 2 He had only a vague idea of her lifestyle and activities I would've expected a famous IT billionaire to be meticulous in his investigation and researchNow you guys might uestion why I'm making such a big fuss over this Well the reason I'm making such a huge fuss is because this H had seen a photo of Carissa and knew that she was a blue eyed natural blonde with very light skin The author did explain that Alexei had not looked at the photo very carefully but I still found it impossible to believe that this intelligent guy could not tell that Mina the heroine was not the same woman Mina's a beautiful olive skinned middle eastern woman with black hair and brown eyes How can this guy not be suspicious when Mina turned up instead of the blue eyed blonde he'd been expecting ? This book made me think too many stupid and unnecessary thoughts For example I started pondering in my mind did Alexei think that maybe the photo of the blonde had been photoshopped ? And was she wearing blue contacts in the photo or did she use photoshop to alter her eye colour ? After all women do that all the time these days for fun or to see how they'd look in a virtual makeover Or I even wondered if he thought that Carissa aka Mina had been spending a lot of time on a sunbed and had dyed her hair black I really do not enjoy pausing in the middle of reading a romance novel to wander off into dumbshit territory where my mind is analyzing crappy hypothetical stuff about people who are not even real The romantic storyline also took far too long to develop I love a good slow burn romance when the author is able to maintain the simmering chemistry between the MC's and keep my interest However there were times in this story when I did start to grow a little bored reading about the heroine's daily activities on the island and her freuent worrying thoughts about her useless friend Carissa Freuent yawning is never a good sign when one is in the middle of a novel It also doesn't help that I keep remembering useless data such as the heroine's decision to wash her one panty each night so that she could wear it again the next day LOLBut I'm not complaining about that part because at least it proves that Mina's a hygienic and fastidious heroine who would rather wash her sole panty each night instead of borrowing from Carissa's suitcase I mean it would've been so horrible if she'd actually worn the other woman's underwearAnd this is the dumbest and most disorganized review I've written in ages LOL Forgive me for all the pointless nonsense but it's been a couple of weeks since I finished this book Anyway let me get to the good partThe good part didn't happen until after the 50% marker of the story The MC's took a long time to consummate their relationship due to their mutual trust issues I was sympathetic with the H because he was the one who'd been embezzled by Carissa's father but I also understood Mina's decision to help her friend If Mina hadn't come to the island then Carissa would've been unable to run off and marry her fiance The heroine thought she was saving her friend's grand romance and saw Alexei as the villain who wanted to force Carissa into an unwanted marriage with him This is the H Alexei The light hit sharply defined cheekbones a well shaped mouth and a stern blade of nose down which he surveyed her This is the heroine Mina his gaze lingered on the length of shapely legs silhouetted in black Long legs the sort of legs he’d enjoy wrapped around his waist during sex The misunderstandings went on a little too long and I got impatient waiting for Alexei to tell Mina that Carissa's father was a thief And then they had sex under false pretenses because the heroine still refused to come clean and confess her true identity It's only after he discovers her real identity that the novel started to become interesting again However that was way down towards the end The resolution of the story was rather romantic though The H chased after Mina all the way in the kingdom of Jeirut and he grovelled The epilogue was cute and sweet It's set a year afterwards and they're living together but not yet married There's mention of Carissa's father; apparently that old fraud has been given a second chance to rehabilitate himself and is working in Jeirut I only hope he doesn't go inserting his greedy sticky fingers into the treasury of that kingdom otherwise Mina's brother in law King Huseyn will have to throw him in jail LOL Oh and that reminds me that I need to go re read The Desert King's Captive Bride because that tells the story of Mina's older sister and her hottie husband This novel ends with Alexei giving Mina a ring and proposing to her ‘Mina’ He swallowed trying to eradicate the betraying husky edge to his voice ‘I have something for you’ She blinked ‘That’s a coincidence I have something for you too Over there—’ ‘Sweetheart’ Alexei turned her head back towards him and reached into his pocket ‘I’ve waited a whole year to give you time to be sure of me and what you feel I’m in love with you Mina I want to spend my life with you’ Safety No cheating no OW no OM and both MC's are celibate during their short separation

I really liked this at the beginning the H was hot and the idea of the h taking her friends place so she can marry the man she loves and saving her from the arrogant H excited me but it was slow the angst was slow and I didn't like the h🤔 plus no marriage and no babies Just a proposal after a year together

The Greek’s Forbidden Innocent in Annie West’s 35th Harleuin book and it is a gorgeous gem of a book The perfection of the writing and subtle nuances throughout this story shows why this Annie is one of the best in the writing businessA tangled web of impulsive deception instigated by Princess Mina of Jeirut to halt billionaire Alexei Katsaros’s misguided plans to force Mina’s best friend Carissa Carter to marry him sees this story dramatically begin Mina allows herself to be whisked away to Alexei’s private island purporting to be Clarissa in attempt to buy Clarissa time to wed her true love Pierre Mina however was not prepared for the instant and undeniable attraction she felt for Alexei after her arrivalMy favourite scenes from the story are during an electrifying storm as the gamut of emotions and reactions are expertly crafted by Ms West giving the reader a sense of being there themselves rather that standing by the sidelines watching to see how it all unfoldsMina and Alexei are fantastic characters They are so strong refreshing and charming You will experience a broad spectrum of emotion throughout this book It goes from trepidation banter and circling around each other to deep and rawAnnie West has a winner with the Greek’s Forbidden Innocent as it was the perfect mix of sweet and sensual with undertones of humour and a mixture of intensity and emotion in between
