This is the second in the Don Juan series in which the author is able to enter and s. Our lot as men is to learn and one goes to knowledge as one goes to war; I have told you this countless times One goes to knowledge or to war with fear with respect aware that one is going to war and with absolute confidence in oneselfIn order to become a man of knowledge one must be a warrior not a whimpering child One must strive without giving up without a complaint without flinching until one sees only to realize then that nothing mattersIn this book Castaneda returns to his apprenticeship with don Juan after leaving due to his fears after using don Juan’s ally smoking mushrooms There were a lot of rather dry descriptions of his visions what the water looked like lights and other visuals I missed the philosophical and spiritual teachings from the first bookThis one focused mainly on “seeing” and learning to be a “warrior” and also about sorcerers and allies Allies – I’m not uite clear on it but I think they appear to be menwomen that manifest after ingesting hallucinogens and can help people perform sorcery and act as guides One of the most interesting ideas in this book is about how we shape our worldreality with our thoughts Through our internal dialogue mainly we tell ourselves such and such is true and so it is We focus on what people do and it essentially becomes a shield that hides true reality which is basically that the world is an endless mystery We insist on understanding instead of opening ourselves up to the unknown Instead of seeing with our spiritual eyes we are trapped into a way of viewing things based on what our physical eyes are trained to know Seeing instead of knowing is a huge theme in this second bookA lot of what don Juan said was cryptic Castaneda spends a lot of time “listening” and performing ritualistic shamanistic acts which don’t seem to produce any major results hand positions which direction to sit in wandering the mountains searching for a spirit catcher etc You can see he is training and learning but it doesn’t make for very exciting reading There was a large section devoted to Castaneda and don Juan calling a spirit of the water The spirit apparently liked Castaneda but he needed don Juan’s help to come back because the spirits can draw people to their deaths or a person will wander and never come back I guess in the end I wanted interactions with the beings in the nonphysical world and less about the green mist weird noises and bubbles My review on book one The Teachings of Don Juan A Yaui Way of Knowledge Screams and Nightmares lot as men is to Muay Thai Unleashed learn and one goes to knowledge as one goes to war;
