It was interesting to read about the history of the town

Non fiction The authors present a series of stories mainly about crime but also about a few tragic happenings in these two small Upstate New York towns If the stories were fiction one would probably consider the book a collection of short stories The writing uality is very good and the facts were researched in detail using among other documents newspaper articles and court records The stories are sad and usually gruesome but well told The authors use subtle suspense effects and analysis well and arrange their facts into what I found to be creatively structured narratives From the stories you get a sense for aspects of the culture economy and family life of Mendon and Honeoye FallsThe one notable weakness is unfortunately in the title The Victorian period from what I understand began in 1837 and ended in 1901– those being the years marking the beginning and end of the British ueen Victoria's rule Some of the events in this book fall outside of that period For example one story that of the assault and abduction of Elizabeth Sibley Gonzalez describes events that fell during 1944 You can find other examples of this chronological mistake too But what seemingly is a mistake with chronology doesn't ruin or even depending on how seriously you regard it very slightly compromise the book's overall uality
