Igations Kate and Decker’s team of criminologists race against time to solve the gruesome and multiple homicides of her colleagues while someone or something thought to be extinct is hunting them I tried to like it I like the author's writing style It flowed smooth and drew you into the story Excellent editing done on the book also Even though it was well written I just couldn't get into the story I stopped believing in monsters a long time ago and it became tedious to me If you are into monsters books this would be a good read but it's just not me Sorry Mr Castle

Review copyWhite Death begins with a disaster at the annual Iditarod dog sled race but uickly moves to the Arctic Imperative Conference where Dr Kate Foster is speaking to the assembled group Although the speech does not go as planned it does lead to a grant and an opportunity to join a research team at Dead Bear IslandDr Foster arrives at Deadhorse airport at the same time as a team of investigators sent to look into a multiple homicide at the very destination she was heading toWhen one of the secondary characters says This is like in that horror movie where the monster from outer space picks off the scientists in Antarctica one by one Man I loved that movie We all know exactly what he was referring to In some respects one may think White Death is derivative of The Thing but actually the similarities are fewAs the mystery unravels the terror mounts and the death count rises Things are never uite what they seem in White Death One thing I did enjoy with this book was the way the author kept it real It took very little suspension of disbelief to enjoy Jack Castle's latest thrillerThe facts page which precedes this work of fiction is well worth your time More thriller than horror but certainly recommendedWhite Death is available in both paperback and e book formats from EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy PublishingFrom the author's bio Jack Castle loves adventure He has traveled the globe as a professional stuntman for stage film and television While working for Universal Studios he met Cinderella at Walt Disney World and they were soon married After moving to Alaska he worked as a tour guide police officer Criminal Justice professor and certified weapons instructor He has been stationed on a remote island in the Aleutians as a Response Team Commander and his last job in the Arctic Circle was protecting engineers from ravenous polar bears It was this last experience which actually inspired White Death

Great scenery but otherwise a pretty average archaeology thriller The artic is very well described and the plot flows naturally from there But one could drop this story into a jungle and as long as the plot changed to conform to location one would have the same story That story is basically plucky female archaeologist gets to be a hero and solve mysteries with military types with obligatory diverse characters and stock plotNot that the characters aren’t likeable just conventionaland the plot could be a B movie special So I give this one a 3 I liked the scenery and the writing occasionally had sharp allusions and it was a page turning readBut aside from that nothing very special herestock characters and a stock plot that could have come from an article on how to write archaeology thrillers

Started out with interest and awe and fell into boring half way through the book A giant prehistoric bear in the deep of the artic capable of mindless killing of humans and yet can be controlled by the melodic tune on a flute This is where it went tits up for me Too much even for my over fertile imagination And then there is the improbable lovey dovey stuff between a battle hardened detective and a smart ass research scientist who together fight off the weather a ravenous bear beast and mercenaries intend on stealing archaeological discoveries destined for private collection I tried to be kind to this book but found it unsustainable

Super intense What a great book The scene where Decker and Kate barely escape the collapsing temple and then the bear comes up out of the water That was terrifying And poor Grimm I really liked Kate as the main character she came across as very believable to me I loved her attitude There were two reasons I didn't give this book five stars though when Kate saw one of the men in parkas standing outside just after the bear attack and then her discovery of the important dig site gave the impression that the bear attacks were intentional But then when the guys in parkas show up later it turned out the bear attacks had nothing to do with them That in and of itself isn't a bad thing but I didn't like the shift from the bear being the major conflict to these random guys that just happen to be there right after the first bear attack kills the original team Kate fainting at the end was also annoying Overall I'd still recommend the book though

I really enjoyed this book This book is set in the Arctic Circle at a research facility The author starts the book off with the Iditarod dog race and left me hanging and clutching my seat until the very end The story is very well written and has a few twists and turns including than one bad guy I can't wait to read the author's other books

Good story liked the characters Felt the romance between Kate and Jack was forced Seemed like the story was being setup for a series but see no indication one will happen The ending was a little confusing
