review A Rocky Existence

Moss Daley a paranoid schizophrenic and former drug dealer has been drugged and abducted by drug addicts Having been handed the task of helping t WARNING JASON DANIEL CHAPLIN'S BOOKS INDUCE PSYCHOSISI read this book on a recommendation from a friend who said they met this author because they said he is very clever and extremely well read This is a person I trust and a person who I would consider literature expertSo I gave it a shot and was immediately entranced by the beauty of Jason's prose The flow and voice are sorta hypnotic It's almost like music in that it syncopates from being easy to parse to extremely difficult Kinda like Faulkner or Shakespeare but it actually reminds me of a cross between an older James Joyce and a younger Hunter S ThompsonOn a side note I have a feeling that the characters are based on real people because they are so incredibly alive that I still feel like I've known them for ages Especially Rusty and HoraceThe plot is also very twisty and bendy A Rocky Existence displays some of the best examples of foreshadowings red herrings and Chekov's guns that I've ever read in any contemporary fiction I would even consider teaching this book to college studentsI give it five stars because I was so heavily moved by it The month after I read it I felt so strongly depersonalized that I had to call in sick to work a few times If Jason wrote this book from how he sees the world he should be locked up because he's completely insane If he didn't and the character Moss Daley is just a figment of his imagination then Jason Daniel Chaplin is the definition of a true literary geniusIt's a pretty great first novel for having such a wild freewheeling narrator and complete blitzkrieg of a story I wish he would have followed it up with a stronger novel than A Decent Machine which I think is just too out there for me to decide if it's good or bad

Felonies across the United States On this journey Moss Daley finds love battles addiction and reveals the depraved underbelly of American society This book is justWhere to startWell it seems like this book was written by several different people Sometimes the writing is slick and immensely technical Other times it's just so left field with a few typos here and there I think some of the descriptions are arbitrary just for the sake of spontaneity but it get's better toward the endWhat I didn't like about the book is that if you're offended easily do not read The humor of this book is on par with Naked Lunch It's just vile and nastyAnother thing don't take this book too seriously It's extremely cartoonish and surreal I guess that's the point of being on drugs and having schizophrenia Deathgame (Hardy Boys: Casefiles, you're offended easily do not read The humor of this book is on par with Naked Lunch It's just vile and nastyAnother thing don't take this book too seriously It's extremely cartoonish and surreal I guess that's the point of being on drugs and having schizophrenia
