State Attorney Daphne Montgomery's been sidelined since the traumatic events involving her childhood abductor When a six year old girl is found near two dead people who are suspected to be her parents FBI Agent Joseph Carter thinks Daphne is the ideal person to help the child find her voice This is a really short story but it most certainly delivers The mystery is interesting and it was nice getting of Daphne and Joseph It wasn't predictable and I hadn't a clue until all was revealed Well done

Warning This is rantyOk so here's the thing I love Karen Rose titles A lot a lot I spend the whole damn year looking forward to them Seriously the whole year Even when I'm reading books by other authors I'll wonder when another title of hers will come out so when I saw she had a new novella coming out I was pretty damn ecstatic and that's putting it mildly I figured I'd get at least at least half a day with her well drawn out plot her impossible not to love characters and just an all around good readSo I bought it for 299 knowing nothing about it other than It was a novella The first thing I noticed? It's length much shorter than I'd anticipated Much much much shorter than I expected I figured 150 nook book pages sounds about right for a novella even a Karen rose novella That would be decent no where near enough amount because she's that awesome but I'd be okay with that short of a story So yeah Broken silence is 75 pages75 pages okaaaythen I read the storyand guess what guess what? it's not even that it's actually only 50 pages 50 freaking pages So I paid 3 bucks for 50 ebook pages? Seriously? What the freaking hell? Iirc her full novels go into the thousands of ebook pages and for this novella we don't even get half of that or half of half of that or even half of half of half of that So I say again what the freaking hell And Like I said I love Karen Rose and I like knowing I'm supporting her career and hopefully encouraging her to write but seriously? What the ever loving hell is this? 3 for 50 freaking pages? My ass Can you say gypped? Gah I'm so pissed off i can't think of anything else to say Okay wait about the book itselfas far as the story goes it's as good as a 50 page novella can be Okay that's not true it was written by Karen rose did I mention I love her? so it's a lot better than a lot of other stories I've read from other authors But it's short And there's a lot of cut scenesand the transfers from one scene to the next IMO was sorta choppy But it was a pretty okay story And I loved seeing characters from her previous books and that's pretty much it It was sorta like a highly anticipated trip one you've been planning for months and moths only to finally go and be crushingly disappointed Anyway If you've never tried one of her books keep in mind they're usually pretty gritty Broken silence would be an okay place to get a taste of her writing though there's very little of her customary grit IMO but you'd be better off starting with Don't Tell which is actually worth its' price

Suspense runs high in this novella that features Daphne and Joseph from Did You Miss Me? who make a return in this novella that takes place soon after FBI Special Agent Joseph has a case with a young girl who was found beside the burned out wreck of a car She is injured but that isn't the reason she isn't talking Joseph brings in Daphne hoping someone who has had the same experience can get through to her

Assistant States Attorney Daphne Montgomery is supposed to be taking time off But her time off is cut short when Police find a six year old girl hiding in the bushes near a burned out car They've named the girl Angel She hasn't spoken since she was found The bodies in the burned out car are assumed to be her parents Daphne knows she has to get involved She was kidnapped when she was a child and didn't speak for six months Daphne knows what the child is going through and hopes she can convince the child to tell her what happenedThis novella is part of Rose's Balti series It was nice revisiting Daphne and Joe The mystery was well written I would not read this as a standalone The characters were featured in Did You Miss Me? I would suggest reading it before reading this short story My rating 4 Stars

Really good novella that picks up some time after Did You Miss Me? giving readers another chance to spend some time with Daphne Joseph Daphne is on mandated vacation leave after the solving of a horrific case but that doesn't stop Joseph from asking her for help in reaching a traumatized little girl who refuses to speak Short on pages but long on story this novella is fast paced action packed and oh so heartwarming I highly recommend this one to readers A Must Read

Karen Rose is an amazingly gifted writer Her previous books have all been best sellers and she has maintained her high standards with this novella This tale follows on from Did You Miss Me ? And is intended to bring closure to a story that Ms Rose clearly hadn't finished with I don't feel it's essential to have read the previous offering but some readers might find it beneficialThis story is about a young girl who is left injured and traumatised following the murder of her parents Locked in a world of silence and too frightened to speak the 6 year old is nicknamed Angel by the police as they try to find out what exactly happened Angel needs protection as her life is still in danger but police and social workers struggle to form a connection with herFBI Special Agent Joseph Carter thinks he knows just the person to help the frightened child and introduces Assistant State Attorne Daphne Montgomery to her Daphne has been to hell and back herself as a child and is still reeling from a recent homicide case but she sees something in Angel that calls to herDetermined to help Joseph and Daphne try to connect with Angel but no ones life is safe as the killers know just where Angel is being heldThis is in the usual dark vein that Ms Roses work travels down It's an horrific insight into just how evil human beings can be Forget horror movies as this author constantly shows the evil that man can do Although this is short it encapsulates everything that her readers have come to expect from her The romance that often features in this authors books is kept on the back burner but the interaction between characters is still as vivid as everWell worth a read and looking forward to her next book Watch Your Back
