Jayson Cook is a prosperous African American criminal lawyer whose teacher and mentor instilled in him a deep respect for the justice system and a devotion to ensuring even the worst suspected criminals are afforded their legal right to a fair trialIt takes great courage and determination however to agree to a judge's reuest that he represent Brian Stone a racist accused of bombing a church and killing the African American Minister's twelve year old daughter The case turns Jayson's world upside down and his life is further complicated by the reappearance of the mother of his own adopted daughter and her threat to expose his serious mistakeKelvin L Reed keeps the reader engrossed as an action packed story moves along at a satisfying pace The plot is well structured and the characters are credible There are some appreciable ''pearls of wisdom'' in the advice Jayson recalls receiving from his mother his father and his mentor And near the end a lovable and remarkably good female character is introduced who together with a remorseful Stone conveys a strong message to any reader who has a tendency to be judgmental andor unforgiving I picked up the occasional mild continuity error in this book and in parts the writing came across as unrefined In particular I was irritated by often totally irrelevant descriptions of the clothing characters wore There was a noticeable lack of the ''word magic'' that endears some of my favorite authors to me But I found myself lying in this morning unable to put it down until I had finished reading the story And the surprise ending was deeply satisfying I applaud Kelvin Reed for a good story well told I enjoyed reading it and I'd be pleased to discover of his works

Up and coming black lawyer is talked into representing an unpopular white supremacist who blew up a church Said lawyer believes in giving his client the best possible defense whether he is innocent or guiltyTurns out it's pretty easy to predict the broad sweep of the rest of the story I'm sure you can do it as well as I did The author does a fair job of moving things along hence two stars instead of one but his metaphors are strained and his writing generally rather pedestrian It's hard for me to believe readers give this book an almost four star rating I could see 3 if one tends to be generous but 4? It's a mysteryIf you have little imagination and want an easy read with a sort of happy ending then this is a book for you Otherwise I recommend giving it a pass Pick something by Willa Cather Scott Turow Chaim Potok Mark Helprin Isaac Bashevis Singer Barbara Kingsolver or even John Grisham instead

By far the worst book I've ever read The characters were cheesy and one dimensional The plot was dull and predictable He has no gift for description no ability to write suspense and no original thoughts in his head Deleting it from my Kindle right NOWUTTERLY DISAPPOINTING
