I met the author Kim Green two months ago when we were both signing books at Author's Night at the Nightingale Bamford School in New York I was particularly interested in reading Hallucination since the book like mine Motherhood Exaggerated is a medical story as well as a story of personal transformation While Green's book is a novel with a narrator who suffers from Lupus and mine a memoir about caring for my daughter while she had cancer Hallucination read like truth Green does not spare the reader the pain of her narrator's physical and mental pain and while there were times it felt hard to read these are precisely the moments when we should not look away The poetry in Green's writing did a great deal to enhance the emotional impact of the story Anyone who chooses to write about illness has an automatic challenge inviting readers into her story But the best medical story is really about personal evolution and there is a great deal of that in Hallucination

Kim Green has written a very compelling book one that delves into the chronic illness of Lupus and its effect on a young woman coming of age I am close to finishing this book; the character's story is told in first person allowing the reader to empathize with the character while learning about the role of a wife and a mother and a daughter and a friend who has an incurable disabling illness I'll be back in a few days to finish this review I'm enjoying the writing style of this authorFinished The ending was well worth the reading I give this a strong recommendation

Excellent narration of the impact of chronic disease on our lives The book was insightful by itself but Green 's presence at our book club discussion made it real as many of us with ongoing health issues including LUPUS could personally relate and share our experiences
