Dollycas’s ThoughtsIn this second installment of this fun series Rebecca’s ex husband is in town to film a piece for his television show featuring her shop POPS She knows she needs publicity to grow her customer base but being summoned to go over details again with his assistant has her a little fired up But when she arrives and finds the assistant dead she is shocked – which also happens to be the victim’s cause of death Just as shocking is that the police think her ex is the killer He has his faults but there is no way he would have killed anyone Rebecca pops herself right into the middle of the investigate to prove his innocence This makes her brother in law Sheriff Dan Cooper a little hot under the collarRebecca Anderson is a strong protagonist but for me her pregnant sister stole her thunder just a little bit this time She is due very soon and anyone that has been pregnant or around someone pregnant knows those last couple weeks are stressful and an emotional time for the mom to be She expects her sister and husband to be at her beck and call even when someone has just been murdered She wants her sister to leave the investigation to the policeher husband and to stay away from her ex husband She wants her husband to do his job but remember his family could increase at any moment It is all very humorous and something easy to identify with Great one liners loved itRebecca also has a very lovable canine companion a very smart one She has a great friendship with her brother in law trying at times but a strong bond She seems to be getting comfortable with her decision to buy her shop and her life in Ohio I hope she continues to move forward and we see less of her exThe plot has a nice flow I did figure out the real killer early in the story but the book had other things happening that held my interest to the very last pageThis story popped for me in several ways A strong addition to this series I am excited for the next book

4 12 Stars Rebecca Anderson is determined to make her new popcorn shop business a success Her ex husband Chef Antoine Belanger invites her on his television show and Rebecca wants the prime exposure or she wouldn't encourage his presence in her life While in town to film the episode Antoine's main assistant Melanie is electrocuted in her hotel room tub Rebecca's best friendbrother in law Sheriff Dan Cooper must determine if the death is suicide or foul playThe plot steadily moves along with action and humor to entertain readers The killer is a bit obvious but this book is a fun satisfying read regardless I love Rebecca's intelligent labradoodle Sprocket The blossoming romance between Rebecca and lawyer Garrett is also highlighted in the storyNote This story contains language some readers might be sensitive to

Author Kristi Abbott has popped out a tasty addition to her Popcorn Shop Mystery seriesMs Abbott wasted no time buttering readers up with a long drawn out beginning She had us into the action of POP GOES THE MURDER in a jiffy And the story just kept getting better A well written tale with a mystery that was hard to solve POP GOES THE MURDER was even better than book one in the series KERNEL OF TRUTH I could really see the growth in the characters and there was a nice flow to the story My only negative is I can’t uite connect with the protagonist Rebecca Anderson She seems a bit stuck up at times and be a little rude Though it could just be me Some characters like people in real life can take a while to warm up to If you enjoyed the first in this series you’re in for a treat with POP GOES THE MURDER Make sure to check out the back of the book for two yummy popcorn recipes

Rebecca's popcorn business is doing well but she has allowed her ex husband celebrity chef Antoine Belanger to come to Grand Lake and film at her shop She arranges an interview with his assistant Melanie in Melanie's hotel room Rebecca is shocked to discover Melanie lying dead in the bathtub with a hair dryer in her hands Sheriff Dan Rebecca's brother in law suspects Antoine Rebecca is certain Antonie is innocent The she gets to know Antoine's crew the she is convinced Antoine is not a murderer Could it have been the mysterious dark haired woman Rebecca spotted at the hotel or Antoine's stalker or perhaps one of his obsessive followers known as the Bellanger Bunnies? Any of the crew could have done it as well for it seems no one liked Melanie Rebecca is determined to clear Antoine's name and get him out of town before she gets sucked back into his orbit Her relationship with Garrett has been good so far and she'd like to keep it that way Rebecca's sister Hayley is about to give birth to baby #2 and is driving everyone crazy Dan has every reason to want this case solved uickly and Rebecca plans to helpThe mystery plot was rather weak I guessed the identity of the murderer rather uickly and never had any doubts as to whether I was right or not The story goes on too long and I skimmed some of the extraneous details to make sure I was right before I went to sleep There are a few red herrings but it's pretty obvious Rebecca should have figured it out too I didn't like how clueless she was or how devoted she was to proving Antoine's innocence There was also too much time spent on Hayley's crazy pregnancy drama I could have done without Rebecca's melty feelings about the baby I hate babies and toddlers and really did not like this aspect of the plot The romance was sweet and I was glad Rebecca is mature enough to talk to her man to clear up misunderstandings right away The characters are what makes this book shine Besides Rebecca who is actually a fairly human character with emotions and sometimes poor decision making skills and sometimes good ones there's her sister Hayley Hayley is crazy but she loves her family and wouldn't want her life to be any other way Dan is a nice man but a tough sheriff He wants to do his job and his duty to his family and it's stressing him out I liked him though Rebecca's boyfriend Garrett is too nice for her He only hints at backstory and past hurts that have shaped his character Rebecca's friends Annie Barbara and Faith are the comic relief I love man hating Faith I especially love Sprokett Rebecca's Poodle He's very intelligent protective and loving just as a good dog should be We get to know Antoine very well in this story He's a classic narcissist who comes up with an idea of how he wants something to be or an idea of his reality and then blocks out everything to the contrary He doesn't listen to Rebecca when she tells him WHY she left him and he doesn't really care On the surface it seems like he loves her and cares about her but then she discovers something that makes her remember why she left him and determined not to return to his entourage Antoine's crew are not a very pleasant lot Melanie was not a nice person but didn't deserve to die She was a psychopath for sure but it all worked out in Rebecca's favor and in Melanie's favor at least for Melanie her plan worked for a time There's Lucy who is second in command after Melanie and obviously devoted to Antoine Brooke is Lucy's rival for Antoine's affections and the role of assistant She is even annoying than Lucy who at least knows her job Jake the only male crew member who plays a supporting role in the story He is not all that appealing but has some depth One last new character introduced here is Rebecca's new assistant Dario While I liked him a lot especially the way he handled the nosy reporters I thought Rebecca was crazy to hire him without references He seems good for business The small town setting in Ohio is fairly bland There's the lighthouse in the distance indicating the lake but other than that this could be any small town in America The locals seem a close knit bunch and I can see why Hayley and Dan would want to raise their family there but I think Rebecca should have moved to Toledo or some other city near enough to visit her family I find it hard to believe there's such a market and money to spend on gourmet popcorn Speaking of popcorn why are there only two recipes here? I want that recipe for Pumpkin Spice popcorn breakfast bars They sound wonderful I also want to try popcorn fudge yum

While Rebecca has tried to distance herself from her ex husband famed TV chef Antoine she can’t turn him away when he comes to town to do a segment on her popcorn shop POPS However Rebecca’s meeting with Antoine’s assistant Melanie turns into a shock when she finds the woman electrocuted in her bathtub When the police go from suicide to murder Rebecca thinks they’ve picked the wrong suspect Can she find the right one?I enjoyed the first book in this series and I was delighted with this one as well Several of the characters I liked in the first weren’t around much here but the characters we did see again or meet for the first time or than made up for it The plot was strong with plenty of suspects to choose from I did figure things out a bit early but that wasn’t an issue since I was having so much funNOTE I received a copy of this bookRead my full review at Carstairs Considers

This is the second book in the Popcorn shop series Rebecca Anderson runs a popcorn shop called POPS In this book Rebecca's ex husband is accused of murder She doesn't believe he is guilty She hires a lawyer that has a connection to her current boyfriend She is also a lawyer that strikes me as the type to do anything to win a caseI really enjoyed this book I always love the porch scenes between Rebecca and her brother in law I also loved the scenes with her sister They were too funny I grew to like the characters than i did in the first book I liked the mystery itself and had a hard time figuring out the killer until the last few chapters when it became obvious Definitely reading the next book

I loved Kristi Abbot's Pop Goes the Murder This is the second book in the series and it is very well written I enjoyed the story about Rebecca and her Ex husband The mystery was fantastic and while I thought I had it figured out I really did not have all the answers until the final twist was revealed I really hope that this series continues as I am really enjoying getting to know the characters as well as the popcorn shop idea There is so much to build on in this series Great relationship between Rebecca and Dan the police chief who is her best friend and her brother in law This is a fun book even with the murder mystery this story has a lot of heart

SynopsisGourmet popcorn entrepreneur Rebecca Anderson and her poodle Sprocket are back on the case in the second Popcorn Shop Mystery from the author of Kernel of TruthDespite Rebecca Anderson’s best efforts to distance herself from her ex husband the guy keeps popping up When Antoine offers to feature her breakfast bars and popcorn fudge on his popular cooking show she suspects he’s once again trying to butter her up—but the TV exposure for her gourmet popcorn shop POPS is too good to turn downThings take a shocking turn when the crew comes to Grand Lake to film in her shop and Rebecca discovers Antoine’s assistant electrocuted in a hotel bathtub Now the police want Antoine to come clean Her ex may be a pain but he’s no killer So Rebecca decides to bag the real culprit If she isn’t careful however she may be the next one getting burned GoodreadsReviewThe characters are well rounded and well developed I thought that Rebecca was funny spunky and full of life Her pregnant sister Haley was a control freak and I really enjoyed reading about her actions at the end of her pregnancy This provided many laugh out loud moments for me Best friend Dan who happens to be Rebecca’s brother in law was a capable sheriff and I enjoyed the fact that he was not a bumbling law enforcement agent you see that a lot in cozy mysteries I found that refreshing And of course you have to love Sprocket Rebecca’s smart and lovable dog I have had my fill of Antoine Rebecca’s ex husband I got a little tired of Rebecca always doing his bidding and I hope he does not make an appearance in the next book But overall the characters were likable and people I would like to get to knowThe writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read The mystery was well plotted and there were enough suspects and twists and turns to muddy the waters I was pretty sure that I knew who the killer was and I happened to be right for once But that did not take anything away from my reading enjoymentThe small town setting was an enjoyable place to visit I liked the fact that the were references to Cleveland and Lake Erie because I am from that area It made the reading personal to me The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and I felt like I was right there watching all the action taking place around meI would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery If you like great characters laughable moments and suspense in your reading this book is for you
