Linda Daly ↠ 9 REVIEW

Linda Daly had a seemingly charmed life her mother Nancy was married to the head of Warner Bros and her parents were one of the most prominent couples in Los Angeles Even their divorce couldn’t test the bond between mother and daughter and their family grew her mother married Dick Riordan mayor of LA; her father married songwriter Carole Bayer Sager But then they encountere. How do you say goodbye to a loved one How do you send them on their way to a place you can’t follow them If you’re Linda Daly you take your dying mother from Los Angeles to a faith healer in Rhinebeck New York and hope that both she and you get something out of it Daly writes about her dying mother Nancy in her memoir “The Last Pilgrimage My Mother’s Life and Our Journey to Saying Goodbye” The book was published in 2013 but I just read itLinda’s mother Nancy Daly was a Los Angeles legend Married to two important men including Dick Riordan mayor of Los Angeles in the 1990’s Nancy was was famous for her charity work with children and people in need as well as the Los Angeles art community At a relatively young age early 60’s she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer She lived for three or so years in remission but her cancer returned with a vengeance and spread throughout her body She wanted to make a pilgrimage to see a character named “John of God” a Brazilian holy man reputed to offer miracle cures He was “in residence” at a Rhinebeck peace center Her daughter Linda and her nurse accompany her across country to behelped Cured Healed Anyway Linda’s account of the cross country trip by private plane on the outbound part and RV on the return can almost be considered humorous if not for the fact that Nancy Daly died in the RVLinda Daly adored her mother but had a slightly contentious relationship maybe like many mothers and daughters The last few years of her mother’s life was terribly unsettling for both mother and daughter Finally though Linda Daly was able to come to peace about her mother’s life and deathIt was a good and interesting memoir
