I Believe You

summary I Believe You

This sentence “In love either you love or you don’t” In love either I love you or I don’t Joanna I have been thinking I have been trying not to love you but the fact remains I love you I can try to forget you I can try not to love you; but still it eventually boils down to this single sentence I love you Who am I to fight lo. The only thing that I got out of this book was the investigation that ensued—how did the author make his book popular If anything you have to applaud the author for his savvy soliciting if this was a start up it could almost be in the book of black hatters

Since the day I first talked to you I told myself that I must not fall in love with you As we got closer I continued to tell myself I don’t love you I held your hand I cried when you cried I smiled when you smiled; but still I told myself No I don’t love you I must not love you for I may leave this world anytime But just now some. This is my first book review on Goodreads I'm still learning the ropes of reviewing books YAY Wonder how it took me this long to get my first review up online I was looking through books to kill time by Singaporean authors and came across Low Kay Hwa and his books in various websites a particular blog and a friend who happens to read one of Low Kay Hwa's books Curious to see why he was a bestseller author in the local book charts I don't trust Singaporean book charts one bit The local book market is small compared to the bigger counterparts in the US and in Europe; not very accurate to judge the success of bestselling titles and was wondering if he truly deserved the title I went to his site Goodybookscom and read the preview chapters available on his site I wasn't very impressed but like any good reviews you mustn't judge a book by its cover andor the first chapters; maybe there will be improvements later on or it's written badly with the intention from the beginning I visited his Facebook page a couple of weeks later and he was offering 10000 free copies of the books in online stores Not wanting to waste my money on bad books and wanting to have a taste of Kay Hwa's writing in general I downloaded this book and A Singapore Love Story which I'll review once I'm done with it and making deconstructions why some elements in the story just won't work I Believe You isn't Low Kay Hwa's best novel there's some truth in that since it was first published in 2005 and the writing surfaced many of the obvious problems As I've said so many times in my periodic status updates descriptive writing in IBY is non existence Sure there's a limit when you get overboard with prose of the purplish sort I'm watching Stormdancer and Twilight angry stare but too little of it does little to stimulate the reader's imagination leaving the narration extremely lazy and dull in many moments The book tends to state the obvious too many for me to list it down here and I'm hoping this annoying problem doesn't crop up in his later books One big problem I have with IBY is the underdeveloped characters How two dimensional can our two leads get First of all I feel like punching Joanne in the face in several moments in the book and reading the story from her perspective doesn't help matters As for 'naughty' little Jacky over there he's pretty much Manic Pixie Dream Girl Boy in his case material That's one trope that I have little respect for and the book gloss over his side of the story and we knew very little of his character and problems other than the death of his father view spoilerand eventually suffering from brain cancer in the last uarter of the book hide spoiler
