CHARACTERS Enemy of Mine The Glimpse Time Travel #1

Kidnapping mortals to different eras is such fun Trickster muse sisters Clio and Erato call it a glimpse but military historian Minerva Ferguson Erva is fairly certain she’s gone nuts when she wakes two hundred miles from her apartment And two hundred years in the past to Brooklyn 1776 In an unfamiliar manse during the American Revolutionary War she’s not too sure how to regain her sanity Especially when she realizes whose mansion she’s just woken in the one British general she studied than anyt. That was a delightful little novel Had me so worried for the ending I love the idea of muses being time stewards

Ood for him Lord how he wants her to want him How could Erva not fall for a guy who accidentally uotes a Cheap Trick song But now she has to get to the bottom of if Will is really a rake how to stop one of the most important battles of the war and lastly how to stop her insane crush on the general After all he’s going to die in less than a week The muses have to work fast for this glimpse But that’s when they work best And as explosions erupt through New York sometimes it’s not from the artiller. It's not about whether the book is historically factual but about the storyline What an amazing way to check out history and to find oneself Hilarious in some places thought provoking in others One of the most intriguing time travel tales I have read

Hing else Lord William Hill When Will hears Erva’s screams of panic he breaks down a door to save her even if he can’t uite remember why she’s visiting She calms though the instant she sees him as if they’ve known each other for eons From the second he sees her dressed in a toga made from a bed sheet to later when she’s with his troops wooing them with her musket skills he realizes he’s smitten But he’s a weary soldier shrouded in grief while she reminds him of a sun goddess Is she too g. Very fast paced and instant romance was happening the moment the two characters met for the first time I actually kinda like this because I don’t have to read so many pages just to see slow progess on every page LOLThe ending though wasn’t really my favorite I truly wished Erva could just stay in the past because she shined so much there and I believe she could be really useful in the past instead of went back to the future also Will could still become a military General or even greater But then it is what it is Still a good book nevertheless recommended

Minerva Ferguson had such a bad day with teaching both her supervisor's and her classes that she didn't have time for her research and writing on military history Yesterday one of her silly students tossed water on her shirt and she was sick of her boss taking credit for her work and holding up graduating for two years but what choice did she have as she thought no one would believe her over Dr Peabody Years ago after her dad died she had learned to play along with her mom's desires and not speak up for herself as it was so much easier Her mother was always telling her what to do and wear and she secretly didn't tell about her life and her plans but made her think she was pursuing goals she thought would help her get a man She awoke to find two women dressed in golden togas in her bedroom Clio and her sister Erata said they were muse sisters and Clio had been watching her for years Clio decided to give her a glimpse at the history she wrote about the general William Hill by sending her back two hundred years ago to the war of the American's independence from England where she could get to know general Hill personally and return to her home time to write an accurate report on the man's lifeWilliam Hill awoke in his rented mansion and heard a woman screaming across the hall from his chambers He hurried to dress without waiting on Paul his best friend and business manager then he rushed out to see some of his servants standing there He lightly knocked on his guests door but no one answered and again he heard a scream so he broke down the door to rush in but stopped when he saw a woman undressed and held a sheet to her nude bodyRed Jamieson spins a delightful story where two trickster sisters decided to take matters in their hands send Erva back in time to Brooklyn in 1776 to get to know the man she had been researching for years Erva finally can ask the uestions that she longed to know of his knowledge and tactics on battles but she never expected to fall for the man knowing he had one week to live

I guess it's like 35 stars than 3 I liked the story especially I liked Will and Paul a lot Oh I would like to know about PaulThis was uite well written and the story line was interestingThe only problem that I had was Erva and it lowered the rating I felt that she was just too perfect She seemed to be good in everything she did and I didn't like it I found her a bit selfish too yes I could understand why she wanted Will to resign but there was other things she didsaid that made her seem a little too selfish I didn't get the feeling that she really was the one for WillBut all in all Enemy of Mine was a good entertaining readingOh yeah And I loved the Muses

Enemy Mine is a misleading title There are no enemies in this book rather than a lot of misunderstandings coming from the heroine's side Erva has misjudged over and over poor WillIt was a nice read To many descriptions instead of dialogue for my taste A sweet romance a kind hearted and romantic manWhat it didn't work for me was the time spent in the past by Erva not enough barely a week and then one chapter spent on the ending in the future This created a huge imbalance in the storyIt did not deter me from wanting to continue with the next book

This review originally appeared on So You Want to Read a Romance NovelThe Captain’s ReviewWarning Content from the book is mentioned here although not necessarily spoiler worthyTime travel romance is an interesting genre The actual sciencemagictrickery used to achieve such an effect cannot be hand waved away I thought the explanation for how and why our modern day heroine Minerva “Erva” Ferguson has suddenly found herself back in 1776 was uite uniue While such a thing as time travel reuires a bit of suspension of disbelief I found the reasoning—if “reasoning” can even been such a thing where “Timey Wimey” is concerned—sound enough to accept As it is Minerva is sent into the past by two muses one of history and the other of romance The idea being that her passion and dedication for the time period makes her deserving of a “glimpse” of actual history That a real flesh and blood experience of the era will teach her than her books documents letters etc already haveThe fact that Minerva is uite educated in the actual time period she has found herself in—being a military historian—satisfies the uestion of whether or not she would actually know enough about how to behave and speak properly as well as reference things of the era I often wonder how many of us would actually be uite out of our element in any other time but our own But Erva happily adapts uickly although she may slip up from time to time From time to time Ha Pun intended I guessOf course as this is a romance novel and being that one of the muses involved in the scheme is a muse of romance we know we are in for some long lingering looks and simmering sexual tension This novel has that in spadesHowever Minerva is kind of—and I hate to use the term but here it is—a Mary Sue She is a little too perfect Her modern sensibilities—and how they sometimes influence her to speak act and think—are too easily accepted by those of society at the time In fact they seem to adore her for it rather than find her altogether too strange and perhaps an ideal candidate for the nuthouseOr at the very least her knowledge of historical events and her sometimes too modern behavior should seem than just peculiar than just an endearing uirk And that’s what truly bothered me about this book At the very least being that this was the time of spy masters and spy games one should do than just wonder about her vast knowledge of military strategy various battles weaponry and such And General William Hill does wonder if maybe she is a spy But he doesn’t seem to care very much whether she is or not Yet even though one might consider that he is so blinded by his love and adoration for Erva at the very least other preeminent figures of the time—some of which are actual military men who served the Crown during the American Revolution—might be a little concerned? Might they I don’t know at the very least uestion her about how she knows so much or says some of the things she says? I kept waiting for someone to administer some form of interrogation but they never didAfter all this the ending also felt a little rushed too pat It was a resolution I could see coming from a mile away and so felt a little dissatisfyingOverall however I did like this book Especially since being a fan of Sleepy Hollow and Turn Washington’s Spies I have developed an interest in the history of the American Revolution By all accounts this book seems well researched in that aspect and the little details about this era of history add uite a lot of flavor35 STARS out of 5Sexy Times Yes very much so The scenes are very loving and sensualTrigger Warnings NonePlot Interesting and uniue time traveling premise Much of the plot centers around the romance the will they or won’t they and of course we know they eventually will But the build up to all this is rather delightful and probably the best part about this book Of course another plot thread is whether or not Minerva can actually stay in 1776 or whether she has to go back and where she believes her future actually liesCharacters Minerva as I have said already is kind of a Mary Sue Yet I still find myself liking her a lot and rooting for her all the way William is uite adorable and turns out to be not exactly what we’d expect from what Minerva knows of him from her research There are some uite interesting secondary characters—the intriguingly playful and uick witted Scottish Sergeant McDougal the motherly and endearing Lady Anne Will’s man of business Paul the Misses Lydia and Emma the muses Erato and Clio and a few others—whom I wish we could have interacted with or at least known about

As a lover of many time travel novels I enjoyed this book It was well researched and was an enjoyable story It has humor suspense and romance It’s the story of a beautiful Harvard trained historian stuck in her career because she won’t stand up for herself Her doctoral dissertation which hasn’t been approved focuses on the American Revolution In this glimpse she is sent back to really get to know the general she has written about What really took away from the uality of the storyline was the atrocious or probably lack of editing For an author who has written professional historical papers grammatical lapses like those seen in this book are inexcusable Some examples follow cantor instead of canter to describe a horse’s gait; allusive instead of elusive to describe a hard to find friend; Man of Wars instead of Men of War to indicate than one ship; bullocks instead of ballocks to indicate well you know; laid instead of lay OK everyone messes this one up but an editor should have caught it; “I don’t how I know ” missing the word “know” before how; breath for breathe no excuse; peeks for peaks; brazier for brassiere The errors were prevalent enough to grate on me as I read I’m not an English major I majored in organic chemistry so there are probably a lot grammatical errors I didn’t catch Independent publishing is great and it allows some great stories to come to the market It’s a shame when those good stories are diminished by rampant grammatical errors or lack of editing While this was a good story if grammatical errors grate on you don’t read this book If you don’t mind them and you like time travel stories then you will probably enjoy this book

I love time travel romances This is my first by this author and my first involving the American Revolution I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the time period and the way the author cleverly wove it through the story Actually there are so many aspects about this book to admire and enjoy The development of the two main characters was perfectly timed and beautifully fulfilled The secondary characters were not just thrown in but added depth to the storyline The storyline could have been weighed down with extraneous bits where our heroine shares her extensive knowledge of weapons and tactics However that was not the case There was just enough information to make it interesting and very pertinent to the heroine's background and storyline I only have one tiny criticism Our heroine is 35 years old Instead of laughing she constantly giggled This is a page turner Be prepared to sit down and not stop reading It grabs you holds your interest and makes you wonder and fret about how this is going to turn out As a side note my main interest in military history has always been the American Civil War Heck I moved 3000 miles from LA to Gettysburg to study it further And I've always had a cursory interest in the American Revolution but this book made me want to read about it and visit those battlefields that survive Onto Highlander of Mine the next book in this series Oh if you can't tell I'm now a fan of Red L Jameson
