This series follows an older Conan once he becomes the king he was always prophesied to be It's just hard to beat a Roy ThomasJohn Buscema Conan tale and this volume proves it This volume is mostly spent showing King Conan's battles with the sorcerer Thoth Amon and also introduces the supporting characters particularly Conan's son ConnGreat stuff really as good as most of the original Conan series So far these stories are based on the De Camp and Lin Carter novels and as always Roy Thomas does an excellent job adapting Looking forward to reading the other volumes

Yes I'm a nerd Yes I have loved all things Conan since I was very young Yes I enjoyed this collection My son knowing full well where his own fantasy geekery came from got this for me for my birthday It was fun Hard to read at points it's dated reprints of comics from 1980 and some of the stuff comes across as a bit or than a bit racist now And of course there's that whole thing where women never ever wear enough clothing to keep them warm no matter what climate they're in and they all look like they came out of a 13 year old's most restless dreams But it's comics And there's a guy with a sword And wizards And it's mostly just fun

Roy Thomas proves again that his adaptations of de Camp’s and Carter’s stories are better than the de Camp and Carter originals Nevertheless these stories are based on de Camp and Carter so tepid at best

Bad art far worse stories and dialogue Excellent examples of how L Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter weren't just bad Conan authors but bad authors period And how Björn Nyberg apparently never read any of Howard's actual work Just awful

This reprint of the first five issues of Marvel's King Conan series is a lot of fun The team of Roy Thomas and John Buscema are unbeatable and this series Marvel's third featuring Robert E Howard's barbarian brings a new slant to the character as Conan in his sixties but no less mighty is not only a king but a husband and father His 13 year old son Conn thirsts for adventureThe first four double sized issues are one epic story that pits Conan and Conn against the evil sorcerer Thoth Amon The final story is the first part of a tale continued in the next volume
