River 'Chenab' flowing in Kerala 'Hashiye Par for a tree to grow' by Shailendar Singh is very impressive and a simple story It describes the poverty of peasants in the villages of India When I passed through this novel I am really depressed by learning the miserable situation of villages in my country The main character 'Madan' is a real representative of Indian village men who are unable to achieve their goal Even though Madan could make his son to be educated but he didn't achieve anything for himself I have seen a lot of people like Madan who have not achieved any thing for themselves but sacrificing their lives for children It is so sadI belong to Kerala and living on the shore of a river 'Kadalundippuza' While I read this book 'Hashiye par for a tree to grow' I imagined the river 'Chenab' is my own Kadalundippuza Madan is my neighbour too and I could understand his feeling as my neighbor's feelings I found lot of similarities in this story to my villagers They also believe in and follow political parties blindly like Madan They would blame themselves for their miseries as they are unable to find any fault in the political as well as administrative system We can see a lot of people like this in several places of India Infact our polititions and rulers have been suppressing their dreams and wishes Religious system is well placed that makes them to believe that it is their own curse I believe most of Indians especially village people are superstitious and we all know the superstitious people are easily fooled This has happened to Madan's life and our all Indian village people tooI believe this book can make a change in people over they will understand the inefficiency of the government and other high and low positionsWhen we read such books at least we would get humanity and a heart to help poor people around us This book also discussing social discrimination and arrogance of bureaucracyI like it to the level that my hangover was not over even after telling the story to three four of my acuaintances and finally decided to write something on the book I would like to refer this book to my friends colleagues and of course my dearest students It would motivative them all It's worth mentioning that the language of story very simple and beautifulI am sure that the reading will make humanity awake in us open our ears to listen to the surroundings where one may hear the crying of another MadanI use this occasion for saying thanks to the author Shailendar Singh for this literary gift and wish good luck to 'Hashiye Par for a tree to grow'Arifa KeralaAuthor is post graduate scholar teacher of English literature

Why did he have to fight his battle against his enemies against those who needed his services most? How the invisible enemies are revealed? You will know the answer to these uestions when you discover the reason behind the baffling events that play havoc with the lives of the characters in this story Tremendous in its scope this novel presents an astounding panorama of human life — from the productive genius who is forced to be a worthless liability
