I loved the basic idea of this book vikings sailing to egypt After all they traded along the north coast of africa so there is no good reason why they couldn't have sailed up the nileHowever while the idea is great the book itself is terrible It is badly written and the characters are poorly developed The only reason I finished this book was for a book group challenge The Art of the Hustle reason why they couldn't have sailed up the nileHowever while the idea is great the book itself is terrible It is badly written and the characters are poorly developed The only Adolfo Kaminsky reason I finished this book was for a book group challenge

Thankfully it is over I had it as mp3 file I would NEVER have finished it in any other format than aduio I don't know what to make of this author Some of his books are uite good and others are abysmally boring This was definitely in the latter category It could not hold my attention so I hardly know what happens and neither do I care The archeologist Bjørn Beltø chases clues found in an ancient manuscript by being pursued and occasionally captured by dark and threatening men That sums about two thirds of the book cliffhanger chapters being interrupted by flahs backs to the Viking age Not my cup of tea at all and not recommended Unless you like pointless action in which case you'll probably love this

Original Norwegian title Paktens Voktere Translated by Kari DicksonEgypt 1360 BCHe slowly lifted the cup of poison to his lipsthen we cut toNorway AD 1070The old Viking looked out through the small window of his cold cell in the monastery at the foot of the mountain This reads like a 52 card pick up mixed up and all over the place

Cool dynamic book which revolves around the concept of keepers of insert something holly This time it's not the Sang Real but it's nevertheless entertaining especially if you are into Scandinavian mythology The interludes were strange to me but that's pretty much the only bizzare thing Overall great effort for the genre

Anyone who's following my reviews should already know by now I do try to only point out the positive things in books I do talk about the negative but I mostly underline what it is that I have liked in a novelUnfortunately there's not much I can say for the Guardians of the Covenant as was the title of this book in the translation that I readGranted by reading a translation you can never be certain about what the original might had been Bear that in mind but you will likely read a translation as well; Norway only has that many readersApparently according to Wikipedia Tom Egeland the writer of this book is pretty big in his motherland Also he apparently has a legacy to carry on being a great grandchild of one of the pioneer authors of popular literature in NorwayIn any case this book is tiring It might be the translation but it exhausted me Before I had reached the halfway mark I wanted to just drop it and forget about itTo this day I do not remember if I ever read the final few pages If I did I do not remember how the book ends; that alone says a lotInconsistent writing inconsistent pace characters I wouldn'tcouldn't care for The list goes oneHowever as again people keep comparing Tom Egeland to Dan Brown although this book came in after Brown's success Egeland's writing antedates Brown's That is the reason I didn't give it a 1 star rating Other than that I could have saved me the time

READ IN DUTCHThis is the seuel to Relic and some mystical Egyptian object has been found in Norway It was left there by Vikings I liked that idea The rest of the book though seemed a bit less interesting to me than the first perhaps there was some repetition with the first book in this series I don't really know The ending was a bit disappointing for me as well I still liked to read it it was a uick read but I haven't read any of the other books in this series I'm not even sure they were translated and my Norwegian isn't really wonderful
