This book is absolutely nothing like I expected I was expecting something along the lines of Daughter of Smoke Bone with beautiful writing in a beautiful city magical mystical beings and a bit of mystery Instead I gotthis semi detective story with flat characters I don't really care about and a wise cracking and slightly annoying dragon whose purpose I haven't really worked out yet As in I'm not entirely sure how differently the story would have worked out without his presence It seemed like he was mainly there as a sounding board to give Kaja someone to talk to rather than being an active force in anythingAnd the way he is introduced is rubbish I had to go back and re read the section like three times before I understood that a new character actually had been introduced and that he was talking to Kaja's dog Zorro who was replying I faced this confusion a number of times throughout the book often having to re read passages to work out who was saying what There were numerous grammatical errors though this may be a symptom of it being made into an ebook and may not exist in the print version On top of this I found myself thinking that it sounded like a bad translation in places only to find out at the end that it actually has been translated as I found no indication of this prior to that pointThe main reflection of this was as I've already mentioned in the grammar but there were also vocabulary problems words that kinda made sense in the context but which weren't uite right and weren't comfortable to read I still haven't uite worked out how someone can fill in a sudoku ostentatiously But if the translation's has been done to reflect the original word rather than making complete sense in English maybe this is the reasonThe characters themselves often have weird vocabularies with none of them having a distinct voice Kaja her presumably 60 odd year old grandmother and her 400 year old dragon all use the phrase respect Which is just wrong I don't actually know anyone who would say this in real life Plus the dragon is called Lance which just doesn't sound like an actual dragons' name to me I'd expect something mystical or at least traditional And it took me so long to work out what he looks like He's never properly described and confusing terms are often used I've never imagined dragons with hands before and the way he is described as moving is reminiscent of a human than a dragon so I wondered for a while if this was the case a human dragon or something I eventually decided not And half way through he suddenly has wingsThere were plot holes and inconsistencies in the story and things that just plain didn't make sense but it wasn't so bad that I couldn't finish it which is at least something I kinda wanted to see how the business espionage thing worked out but that was rather unsatisfactorily resolved unless there's to come on that front in the next book There was uite a lot of very obvious setting up on that front but nothing that would induce me to carry on with this series

The Dragon Sisters is an interesting mix of fantasy there are dragons and corporate mischiefKaja and her dog Zorro he supervises work at an IT firm Kaja's work partner and lover starts acting strange She realizes he is undermining her at workAlong with a coworker and a mystery spy they uncover why the company is laying off employeesAnd Kaja realizes she has a dragon named Lance Lance isn't the fire breathing dragon though he might but of a mentor a helper and someone to guide her on her pathYou see Kaja will meet her sisters two of them in fact who also have dragonsAnd if this isn't enough we have a budding romance with TimI love that the action is located in Germany and Switzerland The book was translated from German Translation can be tricky but this is done well

I got this book as a goodreads first read and I must say I wouldn't ever have read it if I'd been reuired to buy itWell the writing was awful The idea was interesting and the book is still tolerable but it needed a lot of work I'm still trying to figure out if the inappropriately used phrases which use words with a negative connotation affectionately or in a positive way are the mistake of the author or the translator The emotions that she describes with her characters often don't match up with the actions she'll say that Kaja is angrily doing something or is snappy when it sound like the incident was a way of teasing the other character the author also freuently feels the need to specify that someone is teasing when it is obvious to the reader that that is the case and it just ends up sounding clunky but perhaps this is done because all other emotions don't make sense Edit I'm fairly certain these are translation errors The German reviews look far positive than the English ones The author also provides details that aren't reuired in some instances when Kaja is cooking the description is detailed enough to sound like a recipe than a scene in a story where the main character just is making a meal Despite how terribly written this book is I will be reading the next book because this one was left so open other than the Tim uestion nothing was concluded We still don't know what is going to happen at the company Miri's fate is left just hanging and all the uestions revealed about Siera just aren't answered I do realize this is supposed to be a trilogy but at least something should have been concluded view spoiler other than Tim who the reader could clearly tell Kaja was going to end up with from the minute he was introduced into the book hide spoiler

I won this book from a Goodreads First Reads Giveaway I am giving my honest review I did not like this book It was very difficult for me to get through It was definitely not what I was expecting The characters drove me nuts They were very annoying and way too cheesy The dragon was just outright irritating There were several different times that I found myself rolling my eyes Kaja the main character was the worst I know that people loves dogs It's one thing to love your pet but another when you have to drag that pet EVERYWHERE One of her work conditions was that she had to have her dog with her at work She took the dog on dates meetings everywhere A lot of the book is just her one sided conversation with the dog Oh and the dog and dragon can talk to each other I did not like the writing style at all It might be okay for other people but this just wasn't my kind of reading style

I really enjoyed this original story A young woman named Kaja has a great life in Zurich Switzerland but then suddenly this carefully balanced life comes crashing down on her She has to find out what she really wants and goes on an amazing journey that leads her to friendship love and ultimately herself She's got someone to help her with this and here come the twist A dragon That only her and her dragon sisters can see I agree with some reviewers it could have used a bit editing especially what the dialogues are concerned but all in all a great story very personable characters down to earth and real to life writing and not to forget this is a debut I think this author has great potential and I am looking forward to the second book in the trilogy

I got this book through the goodreads first reads I thought that it had a nice premise but the story was lacking a little I enjoyed the story overall but what took away from it was the mass amount of errors and the switching points of view Overall it was okay but I wished it could have been better
