This book packs a big punch with interesting elements the backdrop of the UN friendship betrayal love tragedy a violinist art and complex emotional relationships with well developed characters I liked that the main character examined his choices and exhibited true emotional growth It did take me a few pages to really get into it but once I did I couldn't put it down

I won this book through Goodreads Most of the book takes place in 1999 2000 in NYC near my work and home and that interested me The story kept me involved and I wanted to know what would happen next the whole time I was reading It was both happy and sad The author's descriptions of art and music were wonderful There was a bit too much technical details about the inside workings of the UN for my liking but other than that I enjoyed it I finished it in 2 days with a tear in my eye

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway and although I didn't spend a penny on it what I wasted on it in time was far valuable Fortunately I am a uick reader so I wasted only a day but even this was too much Because I have the annoying need to finish every book I begin I refused to put it down and read to the very last line of a ludicrous book The plot was than silly the language stilted the premise ridiculous Much of it made no sense whatsoever like planting roses in the middle of summer or a one month old baby pretending to finger and play the violin but I will let you find every inaccurate detail for yourselves Making a game of it was what got me through I gave it one star because I am unsure of how to leave fewer I do feel badly as it came with a lovely inscription and a personalized note from the author but my responsibility as a Goodreads winner is to leave an honest review I really am sorry I cannot leave a complimentary review

This story is told through the eyes of Mark and mainly deals with his relationship with a married couple I enjoyed the parts of it that dealt with working for the United Nations music art and the blue roses that title the book The language is simple and while it is set in present day it has the feel of a Victorian novel I believe the author was presenting Mark and his relationships as sincere but I thought his outlook most odd to the point that it started to amuse me As I said I don't think that was the author's intent but I still enjoyed this story All of the characters in this book are rather cavalier about marriage and divorce and the descriptions of an infant in this book are way off but nonetheless there were enough good things in this book that made for an enjoyable readI received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads
